BAR is a New Zealand charity working to end the harmful use of animals in science. We run as a science alliance, bringing researchers and animal advocates together to fund and adopt validated non-animal methods.
No. We are for good research. Our aim is to replace animal methods with human-relevant ones that give more reliable answers, not to stop science. When the replacement is better science, everyone gains.
For a long time it was the default, and much of it is now overdue for replacement. Human tissue models, organ-on-chip systems, and computational methods already outperform old animal models for many questions. We fund and validate those alternatives so the field can move.
No. Protest raises awareness but rarely changes what happens inside a lab. We work with scientists as allies, put a credible case in front of them, and back the methods that let them move away from animals.
Around 46 percent funds work with scientists to replace methods, 34 percent goes to policy, submissions and public education, and the rest keeps the charity running. Every gift funds the slow work that strikes lines from the record.
