The case
Every year a quarter of a million animals are used for science in New Zealand, the highest count since records began in 1987. The methods are ageing, the results often fail to translate to humans, and no scientist set out to be the one causing the harm.
BAR treats replacement as an upgrade, not a protest. Validated non-animal methods give more reliable answers, so scientists become allies rather than opponents.
The alliance
BAR brings researchers and advocates to one table, groups that used to sit on opposite sides, and points them at a single goal. Its case is carried by scientists who put their names to it.
